Kenya Tanzania Accommodated

Group Size: 9 - 22 Passengers                       Tour Length: 17 days

Day 1- Nairobi

On arrival at the Airport your Tour Leader will meet you and escort you to your Overland/ Safari Truck. The next few hours will be spent driving to Arusha, Tanzania. The landscape en route will vary from dry savannahs to green rolling hills, and if the weather is clear you might be able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro (5895 meter) which is the highest free standing mountain in the world. When arriving, if time allows you will be able to walk in town and settle into your new environment.

The accommodation this evening will be in a basic Hotel.

Day 2- Karato

Today you will travel to the town of Karatu which is located right next to the Ngorongoro National Park. Numerous curio markets line the road and you will have ample opportunity to shop and take photos of people and places. Highlights of the day include ancient Baobab trees which dot the area and the picturesque Lake Manyara. Accommodations this evening are in Twin Rooms.

Day 3- Ngorongoro Crater

Today you will enter ‘The Last Eden’ which is the Ngorongoro Crater. The 18 km wide, 600m deep crater has created its own unique eco system, which contains an enormous variety of wild animals. There are almost guaranteed sightings of predators here and the sight of herds of Thompson Gazelle running from a chasing Cheetah is not uncommon. You will be using Jeeps today to do your Game Drives as our Truck is not permitted to enter the Crater.

Day 4 & 5- Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti National Park will amaze and impress any visitor to its stunning landscape. The enormous 14.763 square kilometre park is famous for the amazing variety of animals in it, and the annual Migration which thousands of Wilde Beast (Gnu) undertake to the Masai Mara. The large grass planes of the Serengeti often stretch as far as the eye can see, and are only broken by the occasional hill and patch of trees. Game driving in the truck is an adventure in itself as the dust and wind travels freely through the truck when the windows are rolled up. When at arrest stop or at a lodge, use your common sense and don’t wonder off or place yourself in a position where animals can interact with you in a culinary manner. Both days are generally spent doing game drives in the morning and before sunset and thus resting in the afternoon. The accommodation in the Park will be in comfortable Safari Tents.

Day 6 & 7- Speke Bay

This morning will be spent game driving to one of the Park gates. The destination for today will be the beautiful Speke Bay on Lake Victoria. The lake is the largest fresh water lake in Africa and is four times the size of the Netherlands! The facilities here will be a welcome rest bite after all the dust and bumps of the Serengeti. The bar and deck lie on the banks of Lake Victoria where you can watch traditional fishing boats sail across the Lake. On the Second day you can go on optional excursions to the local fishing village, go on a fishing trip, or even go cycle in the area with a guide.

Day 8- Kisii

You will be crossing back into Kenya today, so have your passports ready. Kissii is well known for its soap stone carving industry. On the way into town you will have the opportunity to see craftsmen at work and then to buy some of their creations. The Tee plantations en route are very scenic and well deserve a photo stop. The overnight stop is there as an in between stop between Lake Victoria and Nakuru. What this means is that this stop does not carry the same amount of appeal as most other stops.

Day 9 & 10- Nakuru

Nakuru is well known for its relatively small (180 sq. km) National Park which contains the ‘Big Five’ and most note worthy tens of thousands of Flamingos. You will be able to do some essential shopping here for snacks and anything else you might need.

Day 11 & 12- Lake Baringo

Today you will be heading to another one of the Rift Valleys’ Soda Lakes. Lake Baringo is distinctive due to the hot springs in the area which generates random clouds of steam.  On your second day you will be able to go on hikes with local guides to some of the hot springs. In the afternoon there is another optional boat ride where you will be able to look at crocodiles and Hippo’s within their own environment. For the Birding enthusiasts amongst you there will be ample opportunity to see some of the 240 species of birds around the lake.

Day 13- Nyahururu/ Thompson Falls

Today will be spent driving uphill into the highlands of Kenya. Obviously being higher (2360m) there will be a noticeable drop in temperature. The overnight stop will be at the beautiful Thompson Falls, and you will be staying in cosy twin rooms next to the falls.

Day 14 & 15- Samburu National Park

Entering the Savannah today you will be seeing the ‘Lion King’ representation of Africa again.  This park is unique due to the Grevy Zebra and Gerenuk Antelope found here. The rare Grevy has slimmer stripes than the common Burchells Zebra and the long neck and small head of the Gerenuk will have most people in laughter due to its strange appearance.  The tented accommodation next to the river will be an excellent backdrop to some sundowners. As in the Serengeti you will be doing gamedrives in the truck in the morning and evening.

Day 16- Nanyuki/ Mt. Kenya

After your morning game drive out of the park you will have the opportunity to visit a traditional Samburu village and see how this Masai-like tribe has adjusted to the strains of the 21st Century. The initial dusty roads on the way to Nanyuki will soon be contrasted by the most fertile part of Kenya. Your accommodation will be near Mt. Kenya which is the highest mountain in Kenya.

Days 17 – 21- Mombasa

The scenic drive to Mombasa is lined with Baobab trees and you will gradually see the vegetation change as you approach the tropical coastal region. Mombassa is the primary port for East Africa and has been in the hands of the Portuguese, Arabs and the British, which has given it a unique flavour. Your hotel lies on the beach and will offer you exceptional seafood dishes with a view of the tropical beach. You can do as much or as little as you like. For the sun worshippers there is a palm lined white beach, and the more adventurous can go on optional snorkelling trips, scuba dives or even fishing trips. The ensuite twin rooms here are next to the beach and are within a few meters walk of the bar/ restaurant.

Day 22- End of Tour

On this last day you can be dropped off at the airport or continue via other transportation.
